The “Self-Forgetfulness” as a Form of Evil in Boethius’ Consolatio philosophiae
Keywords:
Identity, man, affliction, literature, illnessAbstract
In this paper I reflect about the sense related to the idea of “self-forgetfulness” (oblivio sui) in the context of Boethius’ Consolatio philosophiae, especially as it is characterized along the Book I, in which the roman philosopher depicts himself as a homo flebilis. My purpose is to explain the relationship between forgetfulness and evil, at least according to the possibility legitimized by the text that it can considerer the “self-forgetfulness” as an illness.
